Awful Awful Everywhere…
So… it’s nice to be back. The internet, which was awful in itself (I’m directing that at YOU Netspace!) is back in action and therefore I can update this blog. It’s ironic really as there has been SO much to write about over the last few weeks and I haven’t had the opportunity to do so – that’s pretty awful from my point of view. Anyway, the main point is that I’m back and looking forward to giving you the worst in Australian Football. There will be weekly updates, the weekend review, tips and bets for the weekend. Most of all I want to have fun and I want you to enjoy reading it – after all, that’s the point, isn’t it? So without further delay, here’s some awful to kick things off:
Mick Malthouse and Eddie: C’mon, admit it – you can see Malthouse say the word “rapist” on that video. Look nice and close. He sure as hell isn’t telling his players not to get involved. Try it yourself in front of the mirror! Say “rapist” and “don’t get involved” and you will see an amazing difference. And this is why no-one on the planet can understand why Malthouse tried to make out he did anything different on Friday night. His excuse that he was trying not to make the situation any worse was ridiculous. How hard would it have been to say this:
“Look, I said a few things out there in the heat of the moment that probably weren’t appropriate. Sometimes that happens and while I’m not proud of that I felt I had to stand up for my players at the time. Footy does that to you!”
But, no, we didn’t get that. We got a bullshit excuse. And now Malthouse is deservedly branded a liar, because that’s what he is. I’m not saying for a second that coaches don’t lie as they all do, but Malthouse made a blue and then blatantly lied about it as the footage shows. When it all came out and the media confronted him he had nothing to say because he knew he had made a dick of himself. And what he had to say on Friday night and the way he handled it after smacked of arrogance and it was extremely pleasing to see him sprung and caught in a lie.
What made all this even worse was Eddie. For all the “intelligence” he seems to have he can be the dumbest president in football… well, dumb enough to argue with anyone within ear shot that Matty Lokan was a gun for Collingwood. He made sure that he blindly stuck by Mick and then stuck it right up St. Kilda but not wanting to give them apology for the slop his coach served up. Again, this is your typical Collingwood arrogance and failure to simply admit to making a mistake. Hey, we all make them!
Collingwood have once again tarnished their name and Mick, in my humble opinion, has gotten off lightly with a $7500 fine. But it’s nice of him to act like a liar and a child – makes my job so much easier!
The Richmond Four: Let me make this very clear from the beginning – Damien Hardwick will make a terrific coach one day and it was the right decision for the Tigers to make. He’s a tough nut and he won’t tolerate rubbish behaviour from a club that is simply that – rubbish. But bugger me with a fish fork has he got a HUGE job ahead of him! The Richmond footy club is a joke and has been for about 20 years. Their culture is a disgrace and their list looks more like an Under 16 B team than an AFL list. Regardless of what he has done over the last 6 months their culture is going to take years to improve and their is no better example than what happened on the weekend.
Connors, McGuane, Cousins, Polo – out waaaaay too late. Dickhead decision number 1. Connors gets on the turps for waaaaaay too long. Dickhead decision number 2 (although, let’s be honest, I’d be drinking myself silly if I played for Richmond as well!!). Connors goes nuts and tries to beat his own team mates up for no apparent reason. Dickhead decision number 3 (but I’d take a swing at Cousins too if given the chance). The ONLY good decision was the harsh penalty sent down by the club – 8 weeks for Connors, 1 week for the other 3 who weren’t drunk but involved in the incident none the less. DICKHEADS!! Spell it out for me boys! With everything we know about drinking today and how badly it can hurt clubs these dickheads still do it. I’ll never understand it.
But, like Mick, kudos to you boys for making my job easier. And for continuing to make Richmond look hilariously bad. It can only be a good thing!
